Everyone has a right to break Godwin's law but some people abuse the privelege.

Okay, I read it now. So I do stick by my, "Oh, these people and their stupidity!" comment. Clearly, he's read none of RD's books.

All I can do when I read such articles is shake my head in disbelief. I am completely stupefied as to how many people unquestioningly think that they need the invisible man in the sky to be good. To me, that just shows an inherent lack of ability to think for more than two seconds, and it could keep me up all night worrying about it... But why am I ranting about this? I'm preaching to the choir, and no doubt you're all as frustrated about this as I am.

"Similar to the natioal socialists seeing the individual human primarily as carrier of the genome of his race, the champion of the new godless, the englishman Richard Dawkins, also defines the human being as 'vehicle of the soley important genes', whose preservance is the primary purpose of our existence", the 75 year old Cardinal claims in his pre-published sermon for all-hallows eve in the Cologne Cathedral.

Naturalistic fallacy. From the perspective of our genes, the purpose of our existence is to allow our genes to make copies of themselves. From the perspective of ourselves, however, there is no reason we should give a damn what our genes "think", and if this guy had actually read anything by Dawkins he'd know that on many an occasion Dawkins has argued for the desirability of acting against our genetic programming.

This guy, like so many people has trouble distinguishing between believing that we came to be as a result of evolutionary processes, and actually considering those processes to be a good thing. If he applied his standards consistently, he'd also be condemning people in cancer research for wanting a world in which everybody has cancer, and condemning geologists for wanting more earthquakes and tsunamis.

What's more frustrating is that we know their religious books better than them. It's because we read it with an open mind and try to make sense of everything.
When they gloss through and see something bad they shrug it off as "God works in mysterious ways" and move on to the better bits.
Though, knowing more about a holy book than said fundie and laughing at him is quite fun :food:

You've gotten that right. Read what this #@!#$ had to say.

I tried to post on his site, but guess what? Never made it past moderation.

I wound up detailing my replies elsewhere.

My second reply is later on in that thread. Of course, that never made it either.

Thanks for posting that link; the world would be a less fun place without the likes of Mr Meisner.

Indeed, they do. when John Paul II sent this human plague to Cologne in 1991 (IIRC), the whole community was taken by shock and disbelief. It simply couldn't be any worse. Not only does he have a weakness for completely ridiculous Nazi comparisons, but he recently used Nazi terminology himself, when he referred to non-religious art as being "entartet" ("degenerated"), which is exactly the term the Nazis used for art which they disapproved of ("Entartete Kunst"). From the context of what he was saying, essentially that non-religious art has not right to exist, it was clear that his use of the term was not too remote from how the Nazis used it.

Meisner is also infamous for the military services he regularly holds in the Cologne cathedral. He justified his blessing of weapons saying "In betenden Händen ist die Waffe vor Missbrauch sicher" ("In praying hands the weapon is safe from abuse"). Here is the website of the local initiative in Cologne which keeps protesting the military sermons.

Meisner is certainly no too stupid to understand a book like The God Delusion. He is clearly an evil and mischievous person.
