They actively try to recruit celebrities to help their public image. They even have a separate 'church' specifically for celebrities. Unfortunately there are more than enough stupid celebrities in Hollywood that they can choose from.

I think Will Smith was their last target, but he didn't go for it. David Beckham before that, but tbh, that wouldn't have been much of a coup. But celebrities are notorious for jumping on any bandwagon going. Remember the whole Kabbalah nonsense? And not to mention every unfounded diet and treatment that crackpots can come up with. Have you seen Snoop Dogg's "spiritual advisor" ffs?

Anyway, kudos to all going on this 10th Feb thing. I'd be there myself but can't get the time off work. I'll be glued to the local news as soon as I get in. I know the XenuTV guy has advised anonymous against this, and he may have some good points, but I'd say this is very much a legitimate protest and it's about time we saw some slightly higher profile objections to CoS. They've got away with too much for too long.

I don't think anyone takes mrfetch seriously. The number of views is just because people think he's amusing and tell others about it. I mean, this individual is either so full of himself that he's a danger to himself and his surroundings, or he is a very skilled troll.

I would like to participate myself, however, I am not in agreement whatsoever with the wearing of Guy Fawkes/"v" masks. The man was a fanatic Catholic terrorist, and to wear the face of a religious zealot in protest of another crazy religion seems to somewhat defeat the purpose.

The mask is just "for the lulz", probably a meme based on the "V" movie. In fact, I believe the first time I saw the mask in connection with Project Chanology was in a flyer created by some British Anonymous to annouce the "IRL raid" on February 10th with a screenshot from the movie. It's more for the intimidation/rebel effect like in the movie, rather than being connected with any particular religion.

No, Mark Bunker (dubbed 'wise beard man') of xenu tv supports anonymous on these protests. He did speak out against the DDOS attacks against scientologies website and he emphasized that the protests must be peaceful. His objections were listened to, and the attacks were stopped.

My daughter works across the street from a Scientology office. They have a perpetual sign in the window that states they are hiring. One of her coworkers went to inquire, and discovered that's how they get you. They give you a job.

This ones quite good, it goes completely through what you have do in order to progress along the levels, with the Xenu story handwritten on pg 294 (OT3) untill you finish up at the 'Super Power' level where you get to possess god-like powers, such as being able to create universes and manipulate matter. I'd say you couldn't make it up but...

Anonymous can indeed be ruthless irresponsible and careless. Just as atheists are sick of the Stalin argument, anonymous are sick of the racist bigot argument. Besides, I doubt there are very many religious or racist people among anonymous. The thread 'The effects of atheism on society' in this forum may give you an idea of why some people might have gotten the idea that they are. I don't know if the thread was made by an anonymous, but it is typical of anonymous, and a was a remarkably well executed piece of trolling. In this sense, even atheism can be a target of anonymous. but would never declare a war on atheism. firstly because there would never be enough anonymees that would want to, and secondly because it's not possible.

I wouldn't say they wouldn't attack atheists, it's very possible. I just think they're smart enough to realise that they won't get much 'lulz' out of it. They can stall or even hack this forum but most of us would just be slightly annoyed and that's the extent of it, the only ones who would be really disgruntled would be the ones who run and maintain the site, and for anon to target so few people would mean a personal grievance.

A large internet community known only as 'anonymous' have vowed to destroy the church of scientology. As you might have figured out from my name, I consider myself a member of this group. I am also a big 'fan' of Richard Dawkins.
Anonymous will be holding protests outside (pretty much) every scientology center in the world on February 10th at 11pm. Everyone is welcome to take part in these. even to simply drive by and honk your horns to show support would be greatly appreciated.

A common reaction, even from atheists, on this issue is that scientology is no more or less bad than any other religion, and that it is intolerant to single it out and try to 'destroy' it. This objection, for me, is the very reason we are protesting. We want to raise awareness that scientology is in fact worse than other religions (at least in western modern society). They are a criminal organisation disguised as a religion, that exploits vulnerable individuals, brainwashes them and milks them of as much money as possible. They use threats, corruption and violence to silence critics. If you read the thread you'll see that this has been addressed: Atheism is not a single hierarchical organization, unlike Scientology, so there's nothing to attack. You could attack individual sites where Atheists gather, but there would be no incentive to do so since the lack of a centralized organization means that there's no one censoring the internet on behalf of all members of this non-existing organization.
