No, we must make an exception because killing Shambo will offend Hindus.

Key is:

"We fully understand that this can be distressing for the owners, but these measures are in place to protect public health and animal health and prevent the further spread of the disease.

"An animal kept by the Community of the Many Names of God has tested positive, and the case is being dealt with in the usual way. Every effort will be made to deal with this case as sensitively as possible."

The issue is not faith trumping this, but proof that these measures are unnecessary for public health or an overreaction.

Faith is not, and never should be, the issue.

Should Shambo be killed?

Postby matt_shute-07 » Fri May 11, 2007 11:53 am

Shambo is a sacred Hindu cow. The law says that Shambo has got TB and must be slaughtered to protect the farming industry. The Hindu community say that they'll never allow Shambo to be killed. They will form a human shield around the animal if they have to.

Another conflict between the secular laws of the land and religious interests, then.

So, should Shambo be killed?

Yes, firstly it is the law and secondly they are condemning their 'sacred cow' to a long horrible death.

Sacred burger.

mmmmmmm... sacrelicious

Seriously, yes, it should be killed. If not, it's going to die a horrible, slow death, and maybe even infect other animals. Hindu's are just demonstrating that their religion is just as retarded (and retarding) as all the others.

If you've ever been to India and seen the state of some of the cows wandering around the road you will realise that Hindu reverence for cows is a religious taboo and has got nothing to do with compassion for animals. Some of these creatures are emaciated, diseased and generally in a state of wretchedness that no decent British farmer would tolerate for a moment in his livestock.

If animal suffering is the criteria Shambo should be put down humanely forthwith.

Dispatch the humane killer forthwith, I say!

As an aside, I've always thought the term 'humane killer' to be rather ironic.

I have to say I am stuck on this one. I am an animal lover and I don't think human animals should be making decisions about the life or death of other animals. I am vegan so this is for me an especially difficult poll. I wish there was an option to send the cow away or something. :)

Any other vegan atheists out there? I usually run into a bunch of wacked out new age / spritual vegans.
